BROTHA BLANKS ARTIST BIO

Chris “Brotha” Blanks is a Spoken Word and Hip Hop artist, The Author of the Scar Spangled Banner Book, a freelance columnist whose columns can be googled under the Chicago Tribune, and who acquired custody of his two daughters help to raise as a full-time single Dad on the south side of Chicagoland area of Waukegan Il. As a retired twenty-five-year union construction laborer, he now serves as the the first past vice President of Union Labor Local 152 Retiree Council. Also, he is a 90% disabled veteran, who just happens to be an Eagle Scout out of South Laurel Mississippi. Blanks is also a community abolitionist and founding Chief President of the Black Abolition Movement for the Mind Inc. Also known as Bam for the Mind, a grassroots poetic 501c3 Arts movement, providing services and the Arts for uplifting enlightenment, knowledge of self and higher academic achievement for our youth and young adults for over thirty years without federal, state, or local government funding, until as recently as the last three years. An organization committed to social justice, and the Arts as a means and measure to reach and teach.

Born in Cook County Hospital of Chicago as an infant, Blanks was taken to the humble beginning of Laurel Mississippi where he was raised and worked until age 17 before migrating back to the Chicagoland area as the last of his family to migrate north in the late seventies, where we can truly say he literally started from the bottom; After losing his dad who was shot and killed when he was age 13 and mother to a single gunshot wound a couple of year later at age15. He later would endure the judicial consequences and convictions of possession with intent to deliver with unlawful use of weapons; Resulting in the bad Karma of becoming one of his own best customers, but now has over 35 years of being cocaine clean, crack and heroin free.
